You or your loved one might have secret sorrows that the world knows nothing about.
Sometimes you could be in both situations.
In Ned Vizzini’s words from It’s Kind of a Funny Story, “I didn’t want to wake up. I was having a much better time asleep. And that’s really sad. It was almost like a reverse nightmare, like when you wake up from a nightmare you’re so relieved. I woke up into a nightmare.”
Like Craig Gilner, some of us can’t eat or eat too much and can’t sleep or sleep too much. We think we are not doing well in terms of being a functional human.
It’s true that there are wounds that might or might not show on the body and are deeper. Sometimes even more hurtful than anything that bleeds.
It’s hard to be there for a loved one who’s depressed, but it sure is one of the kindest, compassionate, empathetic, considerate, generous, understanding (using all the synonyms here, because it’s that important), and the best things you will ever do.
You can choose to use any of the helpful resources listed below if you or a loved one is going through something that requires help and support from a helpline or a therapist or a mental health professional.
